Born in El Dorado, Arkansas, Dr. Rex E. Luttrell attended medical school at St. George’s University in Bay Shore, New York and Kent & Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury, Kent, England. Dr. Luttrell completed both Internal Medicine and General Surgery residencies at the Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Dr. Luttrell entered private practice in 1993, and formally began bariatric surgery in 1998. He has extensive experience in bariatric surgery and has currently performed over 1000 RNY Gastric Bypass surgeries and as of 2015, more than 1000 LAP-BAND® procedures.
Dr. Luttrell is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and by the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, the Arkansas Medical Society and the Pulaski County Medical Society. He has won the Internal Medicine Award of Excellence, membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society and a Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
