We recently stumbled upon another healthy, delicious recipe, one that is both heart healthy and full of flavor. Salmon is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, which are essential to many aspects of a healthy and fully efficient diet. The two most well-known of these are DHA and EPA. Although you may think of this fish as a high-fat, it is actually loaded with good fats.
Among many benefits, omega 3’s are known to help lower triglycerides which can lead to heart disease, defend against inflammatory diseases and improve joint health, help fight eye problems such as macular degeneration, decrease your risk of cancer, and have a positive effect on brain health and aging, helping to curb memory loss. It is recommended that you consume fish containing these Omega 3’s two to three times a week. Other nutrients salmon ranks highly in include: vitamin B3, B6, and B12, vitamin D, protein, selenium, potassium, and phosphorous. Needless to say, salmon could easily be considered one of the healthiest foods you can find, and a super food at that.
One of the healthiest ways to prepare salmon is by baking it under the broiler, which is another reason we are fans of this recipe. By baking it, you retain many of the nutrients still found in raw salmon, without burning or overcooking it. In this recipe, they simply create a spread out of mayonnaise, mustard, honey, and chives, then sprinkle it with salt and pepper. The salmon should cook for about 15 minutes total, leaving you with a healthy dinner in no time.
